Royal Highlands Campsites

Campsites are small rest stops scattered across the Royal Highlands. Each real-world day two of them are active, and each active one gives you a free prize (a Traveler's Cache or a bowl of Campfire Soup), a rummage pile to dig up, and a campfire you can cook at.

Written for patch 0.207. Things can change after a game update, so check anything important in Palia.

What campsites are

Campsites arrived with the Royal Highlands expansion in patch 0.202 (May 2026). There are eleven campsite spots in all: one permanent camp in grid square J6 and ten others that take turns. Only two are active on any given day, so part of the fun is tracking down which ones are lit up today.

An active campsite has three things for you: a prize on the table, a rummage pile with a shot at artifact pieces, and a campfire for quick cooking.

Getting there and finding them

You reach the Royal Highlands by taking the boat from the De Mer Docks in the Elderwood. The developers suggest wrapping up your Elderwood quests before you go.

When you get within 300 meters of an active campsite, a campfire icon shows up on your compass. The first time you take the Traveler's Cache or the Campfire Soup at a campsite, that spot gets marked on your map, so you can find it again on days when it is active.

Campsites refresh with the daily reset at 4:00 AM UTC.

How a campsite works

Prize on the table: an active campsite has either a Traveler's Cache (a backpack leaning against the table) or a Campfire Soup. If the soup is there, the cache will not show up at that campsite until the next daily reset. Because only two campsites are active, you can loot at most two caches a day on a server. The wiki notes that servers sometimes have different active spots, which can let you grab one or two more.

Rummage pile: the Highlands rummage piles are small dirt mounds that you dig open with a Fine or Exquisite hoe before you can loot them. In the Highlands they only appear at campsites. You can dig up to two per daily reset, and everyone on the server sees the same spots.

Campfire cooking: each campsite has a campfire. Campfire recipes are simple meals meant for cooking on the go, and when you cook at a campsite the ingredients come straight out of your storage, so you do not need to carry them. When your food finishes, it is held for you for a short while, and after that anyone can pick it up, so stick around until it is done.

The J6 campsite is permanent, but the wiki says it does not always have soup, a cache or a rummage pile.

Rewards

The Traveler's Cache gives one random prize. The official patch notes list six campfire recipes that come from campsite caches. Patch 0.203 fixed campsites handing out recipes you already had, and also fixed the Breakfast Skillet recipe so it can actually drop.

Campfire Soup is a rare consumable worth 350 Focus. It has no recipe, you can not cook it yourself, and it never comes in star quality.

Rummage piles at campsites are where you find most Highlands artifact pieces. You turn those in to Eshelon, and most of them can be traded with other players at the Trading Stations in the Central Stables.

Finding every campground in the Highlands earns the Camping Connoisseur accomplishment, worth 5 Renown.

Tips

  • Take the cache or soup at every campsite you stumble on. That pins it to your map for later days and counts toward Camping Connoisseur.
  • Bring a Fine or Exquisite hoe. A lower tier hoe will not open the Highlands rummage piles.
  • Watch your compass for the campfire icon as you ride around. It pops up once you are within 300 meters.
  • Do your campfire cooking at a campsite so the ingredients come from storage instead of your bag.
  • Stay near the campfire until your food is done, or another player may pick it up.
  • Since things reset at 4:00 AM UTC, a quick ride past both active campsites makes an easy daily habit.
