Plantable Trees in Palia: Seeds, Growth and Wood

You can plant seven kinds of trees on your Palia plot: Pine, Birch, Juniper, Oak, Ancient, Twisted and Lantern Ash. Plant the tree seed on open plot land, water it, and it grows through four stages. The Apple tree is different: it is a garden crop that goes in soil.

Written for patch 0.207. Things can change after a game update, so check anything important in Palia.

What plantable trees are

Trees you grow from seed are decorative trees. You can chop them for wood like any other tree, but you can also move them, pick them up and put them in storage like furniture.

The trees that were already on your plot when you got it are a different story. You cannot water, move or store them, and once you chop one down it does not come back.

Tree types you can plant

Pine, Birch, Juniper and Oak also come in Flow versions grown from Flow Pinecones, Flow Samaras, Flow Juniper Seeds and Flow Acorns. A Flow tree gives its normal wood plus Flow-Infused Wood.

Where to get tree seeds

  • Chop medium or large trees out in the world. Each species has a rare chance to drop its own seed.
  • Foraging Guild store: Pinecones, Samaras, Juniper Seeds and Acorns cost 10 Foraging medals each once you reach Foraging level 10.
  • Ancient Galdur Statue: finish every bundle in the Vault of the Roots to earn it. Placed on your plot, it gives one random tree seed per real day. Flow seeds can come from it after you finish the quest The Gardener's New Oneness.
  • Grow your own: a fully mature tree makes one seed after a few more rounds of watering (see below).
  • Twisted Tree Seeds have come from community events (Open Season in April 2026 and Maws and Paws in July 2026) and from the Path of the Briar Lunar Path at level 13.

How planting and growing works

Tree seeds do not need garden soil. You can plant them anywhere on your plot that you have opened up with Writs from City Hall. You need a watering can, which you get from the Learning the Ropes quest.

A fresh seed looks like a little pile of dirt with a water prompt above it. Water it whenever the prompt shows up. Trees grow overnight, updating once a day at 6 AM Palian time.

Every tree goes through four stages: Sapling, Young, Adult and Mature. You can chop a tree any time from the Sapling stage on. If you like the size it is at, just stop watering and it will stay that way.

Once a tree is Mature, keep watering it for a few more rounds and it will grow one seed of its own kind. Press the interact key on the tree to pick it up. Each tree only makes one seed this way, and Twisted Trees never make one.

  • Planted trees count toward your plot's storage capacity and its total item limit, the same pool your furniture uses.
  • Mature Pine, Birch, Juniper and Oak trees need a Fine Axe or Exquisite Axe. A Mature Lantern Ash needs an Exquisite Axe.
  • Pine Trees you plant at home never drop Pine Amber, and Lantern Ash you plant at home never drops its rare resin. For those, chop trees out in the world.

The Apple tree (garden crop)

The Apple Tree Seed works like a crop, not a decorative tree. It goes in garden soil and takes up a 3x3 patch (9 tiles).

It is ready after 12 in-game days. After that you can harvest it three more times, every 6 days. Each harvest gives 16 Apples, or 24 if the tree has the Harvest Boost buff. It also gives Harvest Boost to crops next to it, and eats 9 fertilizer per day (one per tile).

Tree planters are decor

Items like the Homestead Tree Planter look like trees in pots, but they are furniture. They do not grow, drop wood or make seeds. The Homestead Tree Planter shows up in the Furniture Store's rotating stock for 860 gold, and you can also craft it once you learn the recipe.

Tips

  • Want a tidy little sapling for decor? Water it until it reaches the size you like, then stop.
  • Hit Foraging level 10 so you can buy seeds instead of waiting on lucky drops.
  • Mature trees give a seed back if you keep watering them, so one good tree can keep your supply going.
  • Planted trees eat into your plot's item limit. If you are close to the cap, store a few trees you are not using.
  • Harvest your Apple tree every time it is ready. Apples have a rare chance to drop the Jam Plush (added in patch 0.203).
  • Plan the 3x3 space for an Apple tree in the garden planner before you plant it.
