Palia Worm Farms: Worms, Glow Worms and Free Fertilizer
Worm farms are fishing crafters you place on your plot. Put food in, wait 60 real minutes, and you get bait worms plus a stack of fertilizer. The basic Worm Farm makes regular Worms, and the Glow Worm Farm makes Glow Worms for rarer fish.
Written for patch 0.207. Things can change after a game update, so check anything important in Palia.
What they are
Both farms are crafters, the same kind of station as a sawmill or smelter. You place them on your housing plot and load them with food. Each batch gives you bait for your fishing rod and some garden fertilizer as a bonus.
Worms and Glow Worms are bait. You equip them while holding a fishing rod. One is used up per fish you catch. If a fish bites and you do not reel it in, or you pull the line before anything bites, you keep the worm.
How to get them
Both recipes come from Einar at the Fishing Guild store. You craft the farms themselves at a Worktable. Once you craft and place a farm on your plot, you learn the matching worm recipe automatically.
| Farm | Fishing level | Recipe cost | Materials |
|---|---|---|---|
| Worm Farm | 4 | 500 gold | 12 Sapwood Plank, 8 Stone Brick, 3 Copper Bar, 6 Leather |
| Glow Worm Farm | 7 | 2,000 gold | 12 Flow-Infused Plank, 8 Stone Brick, 3 Iron Bar, 6 Leather |
How they work
Drop one food item into the farm and it starts a 60 minute batch. That is 60 real minutes, not in-game time.
Every batch gives you two things: bait and fertilizer. Sweet foods give QualityUp Fertilizer. That means fruit, honey, Sweet Leaf, jams, and sweet dishes like pies, cakes, macarons and Delaila's desserts. Everything else the farm takes gives HarvestBoost Fertilizer: vegetables, grains, mushrooms, eggs, milk, butter, cheese, meat, pickles and most cooked dishes. Fish and Cotton can't go in.
Both farms use the same math for every output. Take half of the item's sell price and add 12. Then divide by the sell price of what comes out: 5 for a Worm, 25 for a Glow Worm, 5 for HarvestBoost Fertilizer and 2 for QualityUp Fertilizer. Round down, and you always get at least one.
Here's an Apple, which sells for 64 gold: half is 32, plus 12 makes 44. That gives 8 Worms or 1 Glow Worm, plus 22 QualityUp Fertilizer. Star quality items sell for more, so they give more.
Cooked dishes give less than they used to, a change from patch 0.169. The Glow Worm Farm also stopped making SpeedyGro Fertilizer in patch 0.180. You can still buy SpeedyGro from the Gardening Guild store.

Other ways to get bait
- General Store: 5 Worms for 50 gold.
- Fishing Guild store: 20 Glow Worms for 10 Fishing medals once you reach Fishing level 10.
- Rummage Piles and Zeki's Wondrous Machine can give either kind as a chance prize.
Tips
- Only care about bait? The wiki points out that it can be cheaper to sell valuable ingredients and buy Mountain Morels from the General Store, then feed the morels to your Glow Worm Farm.
- Feed fruit, honey or desserts when your garden needs QualityUp Fertilizer, and veggies, grains or meat when you want HarvestBoost.
- Save star quality fruit for the farm if you want a big fertilizer haul. A star Apple gives 30 QualityUp Fertilizer instead of 22.
- Load the farms before bed or work. The 60 minute timer runs in real time.
- Pricey dishes like Bean Burger give the most Glow Worms per batch.
