Palia Treasure Chests by Area
Treasure chests are hidden loot boxes tucked into hard-to-reach corners of Palia's open areas. Kilima Valley has 20, Bahari Bay 34, Elderwood 15 and the Royal Highlands 16. Each one gives you a few items, often some gold, and the chest itself to decorate your plot.
Written for patch 0.207. Things can change after a game update, so check anything important in Palia.
What treasure chests are
Treasure chests sit out in the world for explorers to find. Most are tucked on ledges, rooftops, cliffs or caves, so expect to climb, jump or glide to reach them.
Open one and you get its loot. You also keep the empty chest as a decor item for your Housing Plot. It has no storage use, but Tish loves getting one as a gift.

How many chests each area has
These are the totals the Palia Wiki lists. The wiki also gives counts for the temples. The four Temple of the Waves chests are part of Kilima Valley's 20.

Chest accomplishments
Each area has an accomplishment for chest hunting. You can open the chests in any order. Kilima Caches and Plundering the Bay only need most of the chests, while Elderwood Riches and Highland Riches ask for every one. Each reward includes a decorative map of the area.
Small quirk: the in-game text for Kilima Caches says Kilima Village, but the chests that count are spread across all of Kilima Valley.

What chests give you
Loot is a mix of materials, seeds, ammo, food or mystery bags, plus gold for most chests. Several Epic chests in Kilima Valley and Bahari Bay hold a decor piece, such as a tile floor or wallpaper.
Every Elderwood chest gives a mystery bag (fishing, hunting, mining, insect or foraging), except one that holds a Sacred Flower and a cooking recipe. Royal Highlands chests lean toward building materials, flowers, Eloine's Crest pieces and flow masks.

Kilima Valley chest locations
Several Kilima chests need the Glider, and two only appear after you solve a puzzle quest. Four of them are inside the Temple of the Waves.

Bahari Bay has the most chests. Four of them are rewards for puzzles and only show up once you finish the steps.

Not the same as treasure chests
Waterlogged Chests are a different thing. You fish them up (or buy one at the Kilima Catalogue for 20 Kilima Coin) and open them from your bag.
In the Royal Highlands, campsites have a Traveler's Cache. Those are separate from the 16 chests, and a cache can come back at the same campsite on another day.
Tips
- Get the Glider early. A lot of chests sit on pillars, rooftops or islands you cannot reach on foot.
- Puzzle chests in Bahari Bay and Kilima Valley stay hidden until you finish the puzzle, so do not worry if the spot looks empty.
- Keep a spare empty chest for Tish. She loves them as gifts.
- Use the interactive map to mark the chests you have already opened as you go.
- You only need 12 Kilima chests and 30 Bahari chests for those accomplishments, but Elderwood and the Highlands want all of them.
