Palia Secret Puzzles

Secret puzzles are hidden treasure hunts that never show up in your quest log. You spot a shrine, statue or tablet, follow its clues around the map, and a treasure chest appears at the end. The wiki documents six of them, two in Kilima Valley and four in Bahari Bay.

Written for patch 0.207. Things can change after a game update, so check anything important in Palia.

What secret puzzles are

Most quests in Palia are handed to you by someone and tracked in your quest log. Secret puzzles are different. Nobody gives them to you, and the game does not track them. You find them by poking at odd objects out in the world and paying attention to what they say.

Each one ends with a treasure chest. Inside you get gold, and five of the six also hold a piece of flooring or wallpaper, so they are worth doing if you like decorating.

Where to find them

The wiki groups these puzzles under its Secret Puzzles category, and every one it lists is in Kilima Valley or Bahari Bay. The Elderwood and Royal Highlands area pages do not list any secret puzzles yet.

How each puzzle works

Calming Incense (Kilima Valley): four small dragon shrines are tucked around the valley. Light the incense at each one, in any order. When all four are lit, a chest shows up by the Dragon Shrine in Maji's Hollow.

Paying Respects (Kilima Valley): this one is about Prismbeard's lost crew. Visit each grave shrine around the edge of the Remembrance Garden, in any order. A chest then appears in the middle of the garden, and there is a note from Prismbeard tucked under it.

Lost Wisdom (Bahari Bay): inside the Flooded Fortress you will find a big Phoenix statue and a shrine with unlit candles. The candles give you four hints: the ruins, the earth, the sea and the stars. Each hint points to a Phoenix statue somewhere in the bay. Find all four, in any order, then head back to the shrine in the Flooded Fortress for your chest.

Prismbeard's Voyage (Bahari Bay): some plain-looking Majiri statues drop a red book when you touch them. Each book is part of Prismbeard's story. You can read the first three in any order, but the fourth has to come last. The last statue is on a hill in the Flooded Steps, and the chest is waiting there.

The Twins (Bahari Bay): two matching glyphs are hidden in the bay, and each one carries a rhyme that points to the other. One is near the Statue Garden, the other is in a hidden room near The Old Lighthouse. Your chest appears back at the first glyph, near the Statue Garden.

One Last Walk (Bahari Bay): seven ancient tablets tell the story of a human's last walk before they disappeared. They have to be found in order, because each tablet only appears after you read the one before it, and each tablet hints at where the next is. The first tablet only shows up after you finish the main quest Echoes of the Unknown. The chest is at the seventh tablet.

Temple puzzles from the main story

The ancient temples also have puzzles, but those are part of main quests, so the game walks you to them. Solving each one earns an accomplishment worth 30 Renown.

Each temple has its own style. The Temple of the Flames has maze rooms, the Temple of the Roots has a sliding puzzle room, and the Temple of the Gales includes a bundle puzzle and an egg puzzle. Patch 0.205 made the Temple of the Gales easier to get through, with extra quest markers, simpler objectives and lower progression requirements.

Tips

  • If a statue, shrine or tablet has an interact prompt and nothing in your quest log mentions it, try it. That is how secret puzzles start.
  • Read every bit of text a puzzle object gives you. The clues are the whole puzzle, and the game will not repeat them in a log.
  • Finish Echoes of the Unknown before you go looking for One Last Walk. The first tablet will not be there until you do.
  • For Prismbeard's Voyage, save the statue in the Flooded Steps for last.
  • For The Twins, you can go straight to the hidden glyph near The Old Lighthouse. You do not have to touch the first glyph for the chest to appear.
  • The decor rewards are the main prize. Add them to your collection tracker so you know which ones you still need.
